Which hiring process are you working on today?
The Midwest Industrial Hiring & Onboarding Process Tool is an interactive A-Box Work System built on the Midwest People & Management System. It guides HR, Hiring Managers, and Managers-once-Removed through every step of a compliant, structured hiring process for US and Canada.
1. Select your role on the opening screen β this controls which steps you can act on.
2. Select your region (US or Canada) β each has its own independent process and progress tracking.
3. Work through your assigned steps. The sidebar "My Tasks" tab shows only the steps you own. The "All Steps" tab shows the full process with everyone's progress.
4. Update step status by clicking the status pill on any step you own. Cycle through: Not Started β In Progress β Complete β N/A.
5. Add notes directly to a step by expanding the notes area on any card. Notes are tied to that specific step and visible to all collaborators.
6. Switch region anytime from the sidebar using the region tabs in the header.
Steps marked β Required Gate must be completed before the process can advance. The FTR Checklist gate is the most critical β no offer may be extended until this step is marked Complete by the appropriate roles.
| Role | Who | Can Update |
|---|---|---|
| HR | HR Manager / HR team | HR-owned steps: intake, offer letters, screening coordination, onboarding scheduling. |
| Hiring Manager | The manager hiring into their team | HM-owned steps: initiates hire, conducts interviews, makes offer decision, drives onboarding. |
| MoR | Manager-once-Removed | MoR-owned steps: resume review, FTR gate approval, quality assurance. |
| Admin | System administrator | All steps, both regions. For troubleshooting and oversight only. |
The entire process is locked until HR completes the intake steps (Steps 1β2). This enforces the real-world constraint that no interviews, assessments, or offers can happen until a requisition is formally open and posted. Once intake is complete, each role's steps unlock for the appropriate person.
Click the role chip at the bottom of the sidebar to switch. Progress and notes are preserved when you switch.
| Status | Meaning | Effect on Progress |
|---|---|---|
| Not Started | Default state. Work has not begun. | Counts as remaining. |
| In Progress | Work is actively underway. | Shows in "In Progress" counter. Does not count toward % complete. |
| Complete | Step is fully done to standard. | Contributes to % complete. Dims the card. |
| N/A | Step does not apply to this hire. | Removed from remaining count. Does not inflate the % complete. |
Every step has its own notes thread. To add a note, expand the notes area at the bottom of any step card by clicking "Notes" β or use the note input that appears inline. Notes are attributed to your active role and timestamped. They are visible to all collaborators and persist as long as the session is active.
Use step notes to record context that matters for that specific step β candidate feedback from an interview, a reason for marking something N/A, a date a screening was completed, or anything a collaborator needs to know about that step's status.
